The LOVEBACK Counter-narrative

What LoveBack Does

Welfare

One of our primary assignments is to provide help and support for victims of terror, violence and gang crime. We mobilise concerned and interested persons to engage and help provide assistance in various ways including, financial, material and emotional support. We have discovered that the offering of concern, love, care, affection, empathy, encouragement and some basic comfort makes a huge difference in the life of a victim of violence.

Education

Shaping the next generation through education, edutainment and personal development is a key focus of LOVEBACK. We believe in entrepreneurial Advocacy, so we choose to support young people by encouraging them to drop the gun and pick up a pen, a computer, a camera or whatever tool they can find to build their lives and community.

Support

Aids and support for victims can be in cash or kind. We have gathered medical supplies, clothing, building materials, educational materials, food supplies etc. There are organisations providing physical and community infrastructure that cuts across society and class. We continue to network with various groups already engaged in capacity building and community engagement. Some of these are what we describe as LOVEBACK Partners.

job creation

Poverty and unemployment create an enabling environment for social challenges like Gang culture, ethnic clashes, civil unrest and terrorism. We would be partnering with local governments and communities in offering training that leads to job creation.

self-development

As we support communities and individual in improving themselves, we facilitate social awareness and identity, help develop talents and harness their unique potential by building human capital and facilitating employability. As people are supported in enhancing their quality of life, the lure of terrorism and gang-culture is weakened. So self-development is a counter-terrorism strategy.

creative arts

We have begun to use dramatisation and the performing arts as an effective tool to engage the issue of violence. Short films, theatre presentations, dance and music videos help us express the LOVEBACK Counter-narrative in a creative and socially reformative manner.

film production

We are currently working on some documentaries, and TV Series that highlight the inspiring stories of people that love back. HEAR THE CRY

Love Missions

Our aim is to highlight the incredible work groups like CFM, who run love missions like the Healing Justice Mission. HJM is a relief fund to cover emergency expenses for victims of terrorism and extreme poverty: http://www.cfaithministries.org/portfolio-item/healing-justice-fund/

Groups like the Women Without Wall Initiative, whose vision is to develop a non-violent, creative and inclusive approach for conflict resolution, peacebuilding and community transformation: http://wowwi.org/projects/ and many more.

The LOVEBACK Counter-narrative

This campaign explores the uncomfortable realities of global terrorism but more importantly exposes the inspiring stories of people responding constructively to the ideology and violence. It is our intention that profiling these stories to help us propose alternative narratives and a robust dialogue that will lead to affirmative action, not just within the political construct but spread across the diversity of cultures affected by the trend.

We believe we can learn something about how to respond to terror and violence from the in-depth personal experiences of people who choose not just to fight back but to LOVEBACK.

The aim of this initiative is to provoke people to rethink their response to terror and do something inspiring about it. So the campaign serves not as an endpoint unto itself but as a means to further build coalitions and galvanize collective action. Rather than fight aggression with aggression, we encourage people to LOVEBACK

The LOVEBACK project seeks to develop counterterrorism ideologies using performing arts, sports, trade and entertainment. We believe we can help support Governments to formulate a more thoughtful response to violence and terror by giving people varied options of constructive engagement across different levels of society.

How do we wish to create awareness?

  • By identifying examples of creative responses to acts of terror and producing documentaries and short films on them
  • Making the example(s) the face of the campaign at this stage
  • Championing activities that highlight the example(s) of the LOVEBACK ideology through extensive advertisement via all forms of media including social media.

Methods of raising funds (non-exhaustive):

  • Engage and partner with individuals, other Charities and religious communities we know seeking support and substantial donations.
  • Take the campaign to churches in the UK and abroad, whether we know them or not, and seek to set up affordable monthly subscriptions or donations of £1, £5, £10 or £20.
  • Draw a list of well-placed individuals and organisations that may be willing to endorse and support the campaign in one way or another.
  • Seek government funding through grants and, or financial aid.
  • Review the creative organisations that are already championing the course, study their work and explore how we foster strategic alliances to raise support in funds or kind.

Purpose of funds:
  • Creating audio-visual content and programs to facilitate a wholesome response to terror and violence in communities across the UK and beyond.
  • Identifying areas of their need and raising funds to support these example(s) in further development of their work.
  • Encouraging the creation of new programs and audiovisual content addressing alternative responses to violence and acts of terror.
